Flu Clinics (2020) Featured

Our recent after hours flu clinics held over the weekend proved a hit with hundreds of older patients taking the opportunity to get a flu shot before the flu season arrives. This was a new initiative by Busselton Medical Practice to protect older people from exposure to disease.

Doctors Gary Tapper and Michael Massey opened the first flu clinic on the verandah of the Busselton Medical Practice after the surgery closed early Saturday afternoon 28th March. Patients requesting flu shots at the Practice during the previous week were given appointments for the Saturday afternoon.

Dr Massey explained “Each person was assessed by a doctor before moving onto our medical team who were administering the flu shots. It was a really efficient way to deliver flu shots and it also protected our patients from getting sick as a result of just sitting in our waiting rooms. Only two patients were waiting at any one time.”

Practice Nurse Sarah found herself walking out to the carpark to some patients. “Many patients have mobility issues, so it was very easy just to go out and give them a flu shot in the comfort of their car.”

Busselton Medical Practice has been serving the people of Busselton and surrounding area for over 65 years. It is an independent practice that provides the highest standard of patient care. The Practice has 11 Doctors supported by Nursing and Administrative staff.

The Practice remains fully open to patients who make an appointment. If you feel unwell enough to see a doctor, patients should ring ahead first so staff can plan to manage your case in the safest way for you and the community. Patients will be offered telehealth consultation before a face-face appointment is considered.
